Earlier this week, the UK government announced a nationwide lockdown to stem the spread of the coronavirus and those who are considered “key workers” should be allowed to travel for work, instead of the usual government guidelines for working at home and in isolation.
These people, such as NHS staff, retailers and delivery drivers carrying security guards, have been identified as having a vital role to play in helping the country continue through this difficult period. However, in recent days, SIA licence carrying security professionals have now been added to this list.
What Does This Mean for SIA Security Professionals?
SIA carrying professionals are now seen as key figures in supporting the nation during the current COVID-19 breakout as many businesses such as retail shops and private companies with private premises look for security options.
Being a key worker means you will be able to travel too and from work either with their own transportation or public transport.
What Roles are Covered as Vital Workers?
Security roles requiring an SIA licence are deemed as critical workers and that includes the following
- Retail Security
- Hospital Security
- School Security
- Transport Network Security
- Security Guards required to guard empty or closed office, retail or commercial premises. This may also include CCTV operatives but should be performed remotely if possible.
SIA roles can also be used to support local law enforcement to help reduce the demand on policing.
If your current role does not fall under these particular job specifications, then it is recommended that you stay at home and follow government guidelines.
