Once you have completed your SIA license training, it is easy to embark on your new career with all your training in mind. The skills you have learned must now be applied, and over time, they will come more naturally to you throughout your career.

But if your job puts you in a rut, it’s important to keep the following five skills as sharp as possible.

The ability to resolve conflict well

Maybe you’ve had a few weeks off. Or maybe you’ve established yourself as someone you shouldn’t be confused with. Whatever the reason, if you haven’t seen or been involved in a conflict for a few weeks, you know it’s been a quiet season. But conflict resolution isn’t just a skill you use at work. Don’t be afraid to practise it in your private daily life as well. It is a skill that will always be useful throughout your life.

Stay very Attentive

Never lose your ability to monitor potentially dangerous situations. Keeping a watchful, attentive eye is a skill you will learn during your SIA license training, but it is also a skill that can become obsolete if not used regularly. Are you always a caring person at work and at home?

Preparation and resourcefulness

He’s the one that too many experienced doormen forget. After SIA license training, it becomes clear that all doormen must keep a list of important contact numbers at all times. These should include numbers for fire emergencies, medical emergencies, ambulance, police, locksmith and others. Don’t let complacency make you forget to always keep these numbers up to date and on hand in case you need them.

Social Skills

Often your job as a doorman keeps you somewhat isolated from personal and/or conversational human interaction. If your career has brought you to this point, make sure you practice your interpersonal skills every other time. Although you may not be using them now, your interpersonal skills will likely be in demand later in your career as a Door Supervisor.

Physical Abilities

When your door supervisor training ends and you find yourself looking for a job, regular practice can help you gain confidence. It’s also probably a big part of your life if you’re a doorman, but if the comfort of the job allows you to relax about the physical aspect of your designation, then you may want to consider a visit to the gym.

Remember that your career should also be at a point where your skills are automatically honed. If you find that your job doesn’t present the challenges you need to grow, it may be time to look for a new job opportunity where not only are you paid more, but your skills are also honed on a more regular basis.

How to work in the security industry

If you are interested in working in the security industry, whether as a door supervisor, security guard or video surveillance operator, you will need to obtain an SIA license.

To obtain an SIA license, you will need to take a course. Once you have completed the course, you can then apply for an SIA license and work in the security industry.
