It’s a new year and 2020 has been a year that most of us are happy to see come back. With block after block, no idea what day it is and a year of uncertainty, it’s time to try and make 2021 a positive one.

Let’s be honest, most of us create a list of good and inspiring New Year’s resolutions, only to fail to achieve them at the first meeting.

However, here at Main Event Security we want to be a little more optimistic this year. So, with that in mind, here are 4 New Year’s resolution ideas for door supervisors and how to accomplish them.

Get fit and lose weight.

This resolution may sound cliché, but being fit and healthy is vital for any active door supervisor. Being constantly on your feet and having to run at a moment’s notice to stop a fight or dispute, so it’s important to have the stamina and fitness to be nimble and agile. To achieve this, regular exercise is important, as well as a healthy and nutritious balanced diet.

However, sometimes this is easier said than done. Switching to a healthier diet can be incredibly tricky when we’re surrounded by cheap junk food, especially if you’re a door supervisor who finishes at 3 a.m. with only greasy kebab stores open.

However, with a good dose of determination and some basic tips you can slowly develop healthier eating habits. So, try to make 2021 the year you trade in that McFlurry for a Caesar salad.

Become more confident

Having confidence is not only essential, you need to be an effective Door Supervisor. If you are confident other people will notice, including co-workers and members of the public. A good dose of self-confidence will help you lead a much happier life in general and ensure that you are able to perform to the best of your abilities while working in the security industry.

Get more quality sleep

Anti-social work hours are not good for a balanced and healthy sleep routine. Ideally, you should aim to achieve at least 8 hours of sleep, albeit during the day after an early finish. Nothing is worse than feeling sleepy during work, especially when checking ID and following safety protocols. Remember, focus and concentration are necessary to be a skilled door supervisor.

Reduce your stress and be happier

They say stress is one of the biggest killers out there, and it can have a very destructive effect on your work life, your mental health, and your well-being. It might be an unavoidable side effect of our hectic modern lifestyles, as well as working in an industry as demanding as the security industry, but it’s also very important to make sure you take some time for yourself.

The new year should be about participating in new adventures and activities, and we think some of the following might be the kickoff to 2021 you’ll need.

  • Run a marathon
  • Go scuba diving
  • Go horseback riding
  • Go paragliding
  • Climb a mountain
  • Go skiing
  • Fly in a hot air balloon
  • Learn ballroom dancing
  • Learn martial arts
  • Learn to bake
  • Fly in a helicopter

Are there any activities you would like to undertake in 2021? Remember, the new year is about starting over and accomplishing things you haven’t yet achieved. With a new year comes a new goal, so what are you waiting for?
