The additional training includes security professionals who have been updated with first aid. For example, having an updated qualification in emergency first aid on the job.

Why is this change happening?

Effective April 1, 2021, the SIA will introduce new licensing qualifications. These have been introduced to ensure that professionals in the private security industry have a stronger skill set for the position. This includes the ability to manage potential risks and changes caused by new technologies.

What new topics will be introduced in the licensing certifications?

  • Health and safety procedures
  • Communication skills
  • Incident management
  • Arrest of citizens
  • Protecting the vulnerable
  • Emergency procedures
  • Record Keeping
  • COVID-19

What is further education?

Refresher training will be additional training to ensure that existing Door Supervisor and Security Guard licensees are on par with new entrants to the industry.

What is Emergency First Aid on the Job (EFAW)?

Workplace Emergency First Aid training prepares individuals to provide treatment in emergency situations. These situations include when a person is injured or becomes ill. This training will be mandatory for all door supervisors and security guards.
