If you’re considering running an event, there are many variables you need to consider to make sure it all runs smoothly.

From guest searches and screenings, ID checks, through to response and incident management, organisers should never overlook how important a strong security team can be.

Here we will go through some of the best ways to manage those situations.

Event Security Checklist

Have you mapped out your event site and gone through hypothetical security scenarios to make sure you’re employing the correct number of security staff? Places such as entry points and key areas such as backstage areas should be taken into consideration.

Has a thorough risk assessment been conducted? What potential security hazards have you identified? Any hazards or potential controversies should be planned for accordingly.

Are you selected security contractor SIA approved? Have you seen all the registered staff members’ numbers?

Have you made your security contractor aware of any licences which ensure compliance?

In advance, does each member of staff know of their specific roles and responsibilities?

On the day of the event, have you reminded the staff of their brief? Have you made sure that they’re familiar with the layout and the overall operation? Make a note of who has delivered this brief and when.

How Should you Manage Security Presence?

Depending on what type of event you’re organising CCTV should be a consideration, along with SIA trained staff, stewards and patrolling teams. Different security staff members require different licences, so make sure you’re familiar with them and check licences to ensure compliance.

If you’re selling alcohol within a “licensable area”, your security requirements will increase.

Beforehand create a map of your event area, and use this to plan where your security staff with be placed. You should also make provisions to deal with an emergency situation and make sure that you still have enough security staff to protect guests should a more imminent or major incident occur.

Security should also be considered for weddings of private parties, especially when there are a large number of people involved. Security will help make the environment safe and protect any valuable gifts in the area.
